Both Ultrawings games have new versions built for Quest 3, Ultrawings Remastered and Ultrawings 2 Gold Edition, available now.

The first game retails for $14.99 and the second is priced at $19.99. At the time of this article, we do not know if there is an ‘upgrade’ path for owners of the original games as we saw with 2024’s Arizona Sunshine Remake. That said, developer Bit Planet Games has also released a bundle for $24.99, $10 cheaper than purchasing both new titles separately.

Ultrawings Remastered Trailer

The first Ultrawings was released in 2017 for Oculus Rift, Steam, and PlayStation VR as one of the first open-world VR flight games to utilize the virtual stick, throttle, and cockpit controls as opposed to confining controls to the analog sticks and button presses. It was a launch title for the Oculus Go in 2018 and the original Oculus Quest in May 2019 with crossbuy for those who already owned the Oculus Rift version, meaning if you owned one, you got the other for free.

Remastered is, per Bit Planet, the original PC version of the game with some additional enhancements. All four planes and over two hundred missions return from the original with the Quest 3 enhancements bringing a new ocean, a wider variety of skies to fly through, better haptics, new music and upgrades to lighting and shadows.

Ultrawings 2 Gold Edition trailer

Ultrawings 2 launched first for Quest 2 in February 2022 and jumped to PC VR on Steam eight months later in October. PlayStation VR2 followed in January 2024 with support for that system’s adaptive triggers and headset haptics at a native 90Hz refresh rate. The sequel introduced new aircraft and competitive gameplay with aerial dogfights for up to eight players and ring races much to the delight of returning players looking for more action after the first game’s more relaxed atmosphere.

We loved Ultrawings 2 when we reviewed it at release, calling it “the exact kind of VR sequel we’ve been hoping for, building upon the original’s modest beginnings with a massive increase in scope and variety whilst retaining its air-tight controls and level design.”

The Gold Edition brings back the six aircraft from the original with a new dynamic weather system ranging from clear blue skies to lightning storms and a new full day cycle as you fly. The controller haptics have also been overhauled to take full advantage of Quest 3’s TruTouch haptics system.

Both games being rebuilt for Quest 3 headsets also means a higher native render resolution and presumably better draw distance, which is important for a flying game with a visible horizon. Few things can break immersion in games like this worse than seeing islands and such pop in as you approach them.

Ultrawings Remastered and Ultrawings 2 Gold Edition are available now for Quest 3 separately or at a discount in a bundle.
