Friday Night Baseball is coming to Apple Immersive starting on August 28.
Right off the bat, the live stream will be widely available to Apple Vision Pro users with an Apple TV subscription both in the Major League Baseball home countries of the U.S. and Canada, as well as Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and the UK.
Fans attending the games virtually will have the ability to visit Yankee Stadium, PNC Park, Oracle Park and Dodger Stadium this season, each with their own unique camera views. Ambisonic microphones will capture the sounds of the locations in Spatial Audio adding to the sense of presence at each spot, even during breaks in the action. The live experience will pair the immersive stream with a graphics package that floats in the visitor’s space and include details about the team lineups and stats. It also includes replays and play-by-play commentary from Paul Severino, analysis from Xavier Scruggs and sideline reporting from Michelle Margaux.
For those unable to attend live in Apple Immersive, full game replays and a highlights package can be watched later directly in the Apple TV app. Just the highlights package does not require an Apple TV subscription, so it can act as a way to encourage fans to subscribe to access full games.
Apple has an opportunity to leverage its non-immersive Friday Night Baseball streams and the marketing around them to effectively showcase what premium immersive sports broadcasts like this offer to drive more engagement with Apple Vision Pro. Given Apple currently holds Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer broadcast rights for a few more years, I would bet that there is more live sports access to come in addition to investment in more epic sports documentary content like Apple Immersive’s Real Madrid: The Weight of Greatness.
