Real VR Fishing’s seventh anniversary event, kicking off on September 15 on Quest and PC VR, brings seven ancient sharks to hidden prehistoric locations for new and old anglers to hook.
Apparently megalodons were not enough. Every now and then, the usually cozy realistic fishing simulator Real VR Fishing will veer off into some peculiar ideas for events. This year alone, there was a collaboration with popular deep-sea adventure game Dave the Diver in June and April’s Spring Shark Frenzy Event had you catching multiple ‘Dark Hero Sharks’ for a chance at wrangling the Dark Megalodon.

So after seven years on the market with over one million copies sold, developer Devs United Games cooked up another interesting premise. The Prehistoric Sharks Event tasks you with researching prehistoric predators of the seas by fishing for fossils in real-world locations with ties to the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic eras. One era will unlock each week over a three-week span.
Here’s the schedule:
- Week 1 — September 15, 2026: Paleozoic
- Week 2 — September 22, 2026: Mesozoic
- Week 3 — September 29, 2026: Cenozoic
The 7 new species in the Prehistoric Sharks Event
To participate when the event goes live, you have to check the hints on the event map screen to determine the specific locations where fossils can be caught. Catch the required number of fossils and the event map for that week unlocks. Each map, once unlocked, stays unlocked until the end of the event in early October. All Prehistoric Sharks participants get a new fishing rod, hat, boat, and title only available during the event.
Additionally, a personalized Angler’s Logbook will be available to all players. The Logbook chronicles your journey in Real VR Fishing, every milestone, fish caught, and location visited, and compiles them into a shareable record. Longtime players of the game will appreciate seeing their history on the water in one place. Finally, three new fish species, aside from the prehistoric sharks, have been added to the game.
The Prehistoric Sharks event starts September 15 on Quest and Steam. Real VR Fishing is available on both platforms for $19.99.
