Discovery: Rogue Planet, a narrative sci-fi first person shooter originally scheduled to release on August 6, is available now for Quest 3. Developer Immersmind Studio has stated plans for a PC VR version in the future.
In Rogue Planet, you play as a bounty hunter on the planet Rogax, a dangerous frontier planet littered with hostile creatures, abandoned mines and settlements, and guarded cities to explore. While taking on dangerous missions, you begin to learn the underlying truth behind the planet itself.
The trailer and screenshots give off a distinct Star Wars vibe, more specifically the acclaimed The Mandalorian and ILMxLAB’s Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge. VR does not lack for extraterrestrial story-based shooters with previous offerings like Hubris, Galaxy’s Edge, Warhammer 40,000: Battle Sister, and the Vertigo games, just to name a few. Time will tell how Discovery: Rogue Planet stacks up in a solid field of titles.
According to the Quest Store DB, the game was originally scheduled for August 6, but on that day, the game’s listing disappeared from the Horizon Store entirely for several days. We reached out to the developer, who clarified there was an issue with the storefront and the official release would be today.
Discovery: Rogue Planet is out now for Quest 3 headsets. PC VR players can expect a port at a later date.
